Volunteering opportunities
Becoming a volunteer:
Positively Women have a structured volunteer recruitment programme, which all volunteers go through. This protects the service standards of Positively Women, including confidentiality and ensures you understand what volunteering at PW involves. Having a structured programme also ensures you receive the information skills and training needed to undertake and develop your work.
Commitment:
- To be punctual and reliable
- To be willing to attend team and individual meetings
- To attend all four initial core training days and ongoing training as needed
Communication and awareness:
- Good communication skills, including the ability to listen
- Be willing to work with women from different backgrounds and cultures
- To understand the importance of confidentiality in working at PW
Circumstances:
Positively Women acknowledge that direct work with clients can be stressful. For this reason we require the following from all volunteers:
- To be clear of problematic drug or alcohol use for one year
- For HIV positive volunteers working directly with clients, to be diagnosed HIV positive for over two years
Support and Supervision:
When you volunteer you will be provided with regular supervision. In the initial interview you will be asked about your own support needs, including how you deal with loss and change.
Positively Women need you to:
- Recognise your own support needs and how you cope with stressful situations
- Actively take part in volunteer support and supervision sessions at PW
