Taking Part
The levels of awareness about strategic and policy issues are much higher amongst beneficiaries because of the Taking Part Project. The project supports individuals who have shown an interest in this kind of work to attend other training and conferences.
Women living with HIV have had the opportunity to make a real impact on campaigns. These included the prosecution for the transmission of HIV in conjunction with the All Parliamentary Party Group on Aids and the development for the launch of the UK’s Global AIDS Strategy with Department for International Development (DFID).

Two members of Taking Part have contributed to the global campaign of microbicides. This has facilitated their involvement as service user representatives in joint UK based advocacy for microbicides development in conjunction with a range of other service providers in the UK and EU. |

Members of the Taking part project met the Prime Minister when Positively Women were one of only two organisations invited to the high profile launch of the UK’s new Global AIDS Strategy. |

In July 2004 one of the members of the Taking Part project went to the International AIDS Conference in Bangkok. |

As one current participant puts it, “It helps in developing my skills, but most importantly it gives me a platform on which to air my views on issues affecting women and people living with HIV … our voice is stronger because we share a common purpose.”
